Drywall Repair & Replacement
Seamless drywall restoration after damage.
What to expect from our Drywall Repair & Replacement team
Drywall Repair & Replacement in SW Florida
Drywall is almost always the first building material to be removed during water, fire, or mold mitigation β and the first to be replaced during reconstruction. Whether it is a two-foot flood cut from a supply line break, a full-room tear-out after mold remediation, or multi-room replacement after fire damage, restoring drywall to a seamless, paint-ready finish requires skilled craftsmanship. WrightWay Emergency Services provides professional drywall repair and replacement as part of our licensed general contractor services throughout Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, Fort Myers, Naples, and all of SW Florida.
Common Drywall Damage Scenarios
- Water damage flood cuts β drywall cut 12β24 inches above the water line during water cleanup, requiring matching replacement and blend
- Mold remediation removal β drywall sections removed where mold contamination was present, often extending well beyond the visible growth area
- Fire and smoke damage β charred or smoke-saturated drywall that cannot be cleaned effectively
- Storm damage β water-saturated ceilings and walls from roof leaks or wind-driven rain
- Plumbing repair access β sections removed to access and repair leaking pipes
- Asbestos abatement β replacement of drywall and joint compound containing asbestos in pre-1980 homes
1. Assessment & Preparation
Our crew assesses the extent of replacement needed and verifies that the structure behind β studs, insulation, vapor barrier β is dry, mold-free, and ready for new drywall. We confirm drywall thickness (typically 1/2β³ for walls, 5/8β³ for fire-rated assemblies and ceilings), type (standard, moisture-resistant, or mold-resistant), and any code requirements.
2. Installation
New drywall is cut to precise dimensions and secured to framing with screws at code-specified spacing. For flood-cut repairs, we use a California patch or traditional butt-joint method depending on the wall geometry. Ceiling repairs require proper blocking and support for a smooth, sag-free finish.
3. Taping & Mudding
Joints are taped and coated with three progressively wider applications of joint compound, feathered to create an invisible transition. This step requires patience and skill β rushing it results in visible seams, ridges, and bubbles that show through paint. Our drywall finishers have years of experience achieving Level 4 and Level 5 finishes.
4. Texture Matching
This is where most drywall repairs fail. SW Florida homes feature a variety of ceiling and wall textures β orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel, smooth, and popcorn. Matching the existing texture requires the correct tool, technique, and material consistency. We custom-mix and test on a sample board before applying to your walls, ensuring a match that is invisible after painting. For popcorn ceiling replacement, we can replicate the texture or provide a modern smooth or knockdown alternative.
5. Priming & Paint Preparation
New drywall and joint compound are primed with PVA or shellac-based primer (shellac for fire and smoke-affected areas) to seal the surface and create uniform paint absorption. The surface is then ready for final painting.
Why Texture Matching Matters
Insurance policies specify restoration to βpre-loss condition,β and a visible repair β even if structurally sound β does not meet that standard. Poor texture matching is one of the most common homeowner complaints after restoration work. WrightWayβs dedicated drywall finishers specialize in matching existing textures across the range of styles found in Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte County homes, from 1960s-era smooth plaster to modern knockdown finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common timing, documentation, and service questions answered in a clearer format so owners and managers can make confident decisions faster.
Yes, and this is one of WrightWay’s greatest advantages. We manage the entire process from emergency mitigation through final reconstruction under one company, which eliminates the delays, miscommunication, and finger-pointing that often occur when homeowners hire separate contractors for each phase. Our seamless approach saves time, reduces stress, and ensures consistent quality from start to finish.
Mitigation refers to the immediate emergency actions taken to stop further damage, such as water extraction, board-up, and structural drying. Restoration, or reconstruction, is the process of repairing and rebuilding the property back to its pre-loss condition, including drywall replacement, painting, flooring installation, and cabinetry. WrightWay handles both phases so your property is returned to the way it looked and felt before the damage occurred.
We make every effort to match your existing materials, including flooring, paint colors, cabinetry styles, countertops, and trim profiles. WrightWay’s reconstruction team sources materials from a wide network of suppliers and uses color-matching technology to achieve the closest possible match. When an exact match is not available, we present comparable options and work with you to select a finish you are happy with.
Reconstruction timelines depend on the scope of damage, material availability, and permit requirements. Minor repairs may be completed in one to two weeks, while full-scale reconstruction of heavily damaged properties can take several months. WrightWay provides a detailed project schedule during the planning phase and assigns a dedicated project manager to keep the job on track and keep you informed of progress.
