“On September 11, 2001, 2,977 people lost their lives. Thousands more were saved by men and women who ran toward the danger when everyone else was running away. We remember.”
Twenty-five years
Need restoration help in Southwest Florida right now? WrightWay dispatches in 60 to 90 minutes from three Florida offices, and we answer with a live human.
It has been twenty-five years since September 11, 2001. For some of us, it feels like it just happened. For others β including kids being born now β it’s a chapter in a history book.
That’s why days like today matter. Because the people we lost deserve to be more than a date on a calendar. And the way we remember them β out loud, in our families, in our communities β is how their memory survives.
The names matter
Today, families across the country will read the names of the people they lost. 2,977 of them. Office workers. Flight crews. Travelers. First responders. Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, Port Authority officers. People who went to work that morning expecting an ordinary Tuesday.
They had families, hobbies, plans for the weekend. They were not symbols. They were people. Their memory deserves to be held that way.
To the first responders
WrightWay is, at its core, a first-response company. When something terrible happens to a home or a business, we show up. That mindset β running toward the problem instead of away from it β comes from a much deeper tradition than ours.
On September 11, the firefighters of FDNY, the police officers of NYPD, the Port Authority officers, the EMTs, the chaplains, the rescue dogs, and every civilian who turned around to help someone they didn’t know β that is the standard. We carry it with us on every emergency call we run, even on the smallest residential job.
To the first responders who were there twenty-five years ago, and to the ones still suffering from related illnesses to this day: thank you. We have not forgotten.
To the families
For the families who lost a parent, a child, a spouse, a sibling, a friend β today is hard. It’s harder than people realize. We’re thinking of you.
If you are one of those families and you live in Southwest Florida, please know your community holds you with care, today and every day.
What we do today
WrightWay’s offices observe a moment of silence at 8:46 AM, the time the first plane struck the North Tower. Our 24/7 emergency response line stays staffed β that hasn’t changed in twenty-five years and it won’t.
If you are looking for a way to mark the day, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York continues to read names and welcome visitors. Local first-responder organizations across Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties also hold remembrance events β check with your county emergency management office for times and locations.
Never forget. 9/11/01.
