What is Assignment of Benefits (AOB)?
An Assignment of Benefits (AOB) is a legal document that transfers your insurance claim rights to a third party : typically your restoration contractor. Under AOB, the contractor bills the insurance company directly, files supplements, and receives payment without the homeowner acting as the middleman. WrightWay Emergency Services does not use AOB : we bill homeowners directly and provide all documentation needed to support your insurance claim filing.
Florida’s 2023 AOB Reform
Florida’s 2023 insurance reform legislation (SB 2A) significantly changed AOB rules. Key changes include:
- One-way attorney fees were eliminated for AOB claims
- Carriers can now offer policies that restrict or prohibit AOB
- Contractors must provide a detailed, itemized estimate before work begins
