Restoration Services in Tarpon Springs, Florida
The Sponge Docks and Anclote River corridor face tidal flooding that threatens Tarpon Springs' irreplaceable historic architecture.
Tarpon Springs anchors the northern tip of Pinellas County, a city of approximately 26,000 residents famous for its historic Greek sponge-diving heritage, the Sponge Docks along the Anclote River, and a vibrant downtown that draws visitors from across the state. The city’s location at the junction of the Anclote River, Lake Tarpon to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west creates a water-rich environment that is as scenic as it is flood-prone. The Sponge Docks district and the waterfront neighborhoods along the Anclote sit in FEMA flood zones, and the Anclote River has a documented history of overflowing during tropical storms and heavy rain events, pushing water into homes and businesses along its banks and threatening the historic structures that make Tarpon Springs unique.
Anclote River Flooding and Storm Surge
Hurricane Irma in 2017 produced significant storm surge along the Tarpon Springs coastline and caused the Anclote River to rise, flooding properties in the downtown area and the residential neighborhoods north of Tarpon Avenue. The Anclote Keys, barrier islands just offshore, provide some protection from direct Gulf wave action but do not prevent storm surge from pushing through the passes and up the river. During major hurricanes, the surge can combine with rainfall-driven river flooding to create a dual-source flood event that affects properties along the entire river corridor from the Gulf inland to Lake Tarpon. The lake itself can rise during prolonged wet periods, flooding properties along its shores and backing up into the tributaries and canals that drain into it.
Historic Architecture and Specialized Restoration
Tarpon Springs’ Greek Revival and Mediterranean-style architecture, dating in many cases to the early 1900s, requires specialized restoration techniques that respect historic materials while addressing modern water damage and mold concerns. The Sponge Docks’ commercial buildings feature masonry construction with plaster finishes, original wood framing, and vintage mechanical systems that cannot simply be replaced with modern equivalents without altering the historic character of the structures. The residential neighborhoods near downtown feature a mix of Greek Revival homes, mid-century Florida ranch houses, and newer construction, each requiring different restoration approaches. The downtown area’s concentration of restaurants, bakeries, and specialty shops means commercial water damage events can cause significant business interruption and require rapid response to minimize losses.

We had the best experience with Wrightway! We had a flooding incident from our AC system that seeped into the walls and under the laminate flooring. They were prompt, professional and did a great job drying out and cleaning up everything for us! We also had them do the repairs and we were 100% impressed with their work! Everyone we came in contact with in the office and into our home were respectful and knowledgeable. They worked with us on a great price! We can't say enough about a great experience during a stressful time! A special shout out to Alicia who was great to work with! Thank you all so much!
Verify on Google →Richie Correa with Wright Way was fantastic. He was punctual, efficient and educated me through the whole process of cleaning and sanitizing our air vents. Answered all my questions and was honest and knowledgeable with over 25 years experience. Highly recommend!
Verify on Google →Had a great experience with Wrightway. 3 weeks ago my townhouse had major water intrusion, wet drywall, and water everywhere. The HOA called them at 3pm and by 5pm the crew was onsite with dryers and tearing out the wet drywall. The techs wore shoe covers, were very professional, and made sure to cover and drape unexposed areas. Fernando the project lead called me every other day to keep me updated on the dry out and remediation. The had infrared moisture meters and some pretty high tech stuff. Fernando coordinated with the exterior work to fix the leak, and the interior drywall replacement. I have heard horror stories about remediation companies ripping people off, but this is absolutely not the case with Wrightway. They turned a horrible situation into nothing more than a mild inconvenience. 5 stars for everyone I came in contact with. Great job
